Windows Phone 8 – Bing Beats Shazam

There’s an app for nearly everything these days but sometimes there are features built into the operating system that will do the job of a dedicated app.

Shazam is one of those very popular apps which broke ground on the iPhone with its ability to determine what song is playing just by listening to a small clip of it. It has probably solved many of those mind racking mysteries when you can’t remember the name of a song or artist over the years.

What you may not realise is that Windows Phone includes Bing audio search that will accomplish the same functionality as Shazam. All you need to do is hit the search button, hit the audio button at the bottom and let Bing listen to your music. Bing will then bring up the results and allow you to listen to a preview of the sing, offer the chance to purchase the track or download it if you have an active Xbox Music Pass.

That is all good except the music search button is not to be found. Not sure why but apparently it is not a given the function is available. The same goes for other search features and fx. on my WP8 phone there is only basic Bing and the pretty useless QR/Tag scanner.

My phone would be better if I could select the search button to google 🙁
