Panasonic Home Appliance Competition!

I did mention about a month ago after attending the Panasonic Home Appliance Launch Event in Sydney that I had an exciting announcement for the blog and here it is – I have some prizes from Panasonic to give away to some lucky readers!

So what is up for grabs?

The big prize is a Panasonic Rice Cooker (model SR-MS183WST) which normally retails for AU$209 and can cook up to twenty cups of rice as well as a stack of other tasty things like soups, stews and cakes and fruit compote  (and I tried some compote made from one of these units and it was pretty good) (apologies, the break maker can do compote, not the rice cooker). Cooking and baking fresh without preservatives can only be a good thing.

There are also two minor prizes each comprising of one Panasonic Compact Sonic Toothbrushes (model EW-DS11) which retail for AU$32.99 each. I was lucky enough to win one of these in the recent Winning Smiles promotion that was run on the Panasonic page on Facebook and is ideal for getting a great clean when on travel, minimises bulk compared to regular electric toothbrushes and runs off a single AAA battery.

Tia Porter, a fellow Panasonic Insider Crew member, has covered these products in a bit more detail on her blog – check it out.

Since my children are the most profligate users of electricity in my house, I plan on moving them to the cellar and keeping them in the dark.

I would think upgrading commonly used appliances and whitegoods to more efficient models could be a simple start. Also, on those hot days during the upcoming summer closing blinds/curtains for insulation could also save on energy used to cool the home.

In winter, make sure drafts are reduced from around windows and doors by ensuring seals are working correctly, only heat areas you need to. In summer, keep curtains closed during the day to help keep the heat out.

    Insulate your roof space.

Turn off appliances and plug packs that aren’t being used. Using a plug in power meter available from Jaycar, etc, check to see how much power appliances are using when in standby. Using green energy boards to turn off high standby current appliances that don’t need to be on, such as powered sub-woofers when the amplifier is off.

  1. Turn off the TV, get outside and have fun in the fresh air, have barbies with friends, let the kids play. Drink wine by candlelight with friends. All this puts a smile on your face, improves your health and you reduce electricity use too.

By cooking most meals in the microwave, using Tupperware’s products saving cooking time, it is very efficient energy wise, less cooking with stove/oven. I recommend Tupperware, browse their Website, products guarantee 100%, replaced damaged items. Saving on our electricity bill by placing censor lights throughout our house. The runoff water from Amy’s dialysis machine is used to water our vegetable garden. Filling up ½ bucket water, using Sunlight soap remove any soil from whites before washing, then water pot plants with that water. Shopping fortnightly, using a list so I only buy what is required. Walking more, driving less.

  2. Tip 1: To utilize space, you can convert your ceiling into storage space. Put in a drop-down ladder to the ceiling, and lay some planks or MDF sheeting to put boxes on so they don’t fall through your ceiling. The area in your roof is huge, and it often wasted space. You can lay insulation down first before sheeting to save energy as well.
