Farewell Steve Jobs

It should come as no news that Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, died today just one day after the iPhone 4S was announced at Apple HQ in Cupertino. Love him or hate him, he made a profound impact upon the world of technology with things such as:

  • the iPod and the major push into digital music and content with iTunes,
  • the iPhone (which set the standard for smartphones back in 2007 and data plans offered by carriers),
  • the iPad (the tablet computer that has had other players in the industry scrambling to emulate its success),
  • the iMac (maybe not such a big game changer in itself but did spurn the conputer industry from its “beige box syndrome”).
Steve Jobs also mentored Larry Page and Sergey Brin from Google who have each made their individual tributes to Steve on their Google Plus profiles.
I’ve collected some of the more notable tributes to Steve Jobs on the web and will add more when I come across them.

Also worth watching is an address Steve Jobs made to a Stanford University about a year after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I particularly like his advice of “stay hungry, stay foolish”.

I don’t think words can adequately express what an impact Steve Jobs has had on the industry directly or indirectly but it’s worth noting that it won’t be the same without him.
