Windows XP End of Life in 1000 Days

Just a quick heads up for tonight.

We all know that Windows XP is two full versions off the pace set by Windows 7 and with Windows 8 slated to come out next year it does start to make Windows XP look prehistoric in comparison. Still, Windows XP does represent a significant portion of the install base our there.

So, while 1000 days is under two years and nine months away you should definitely look at moving off Windows XP soon. Two popular options may be to wait a little bit longer for Windows 8 to be released or go to Windows 7 and then upgrade later on. There may also be hardware implications to consider (i.e. if you need to beef things up to run Windows 7/8 properly) so if you are on hardware that is upwards or five years old you might want to consider replacing your current system with something more recent (and probably more power efficient in most cases).

By all means, give it some thought but don’t sit on it for too long. Whilst, Windows XP won’t stop working in 1000 days time you will miss out on all important security patches and the benefits of running more recent versions of Internet Explorer 9 and 10. If you rely upon your computer to be safe and secure then this is definitely something that should be on your radar.
